The Army Corps of Engineers anticipates finishing up sandbag removal and beginning its final pass Monday in Oakport Township and Georgetown, Minn.
Residents who built private sandbag levees that were not part of the mainline levee systems protecting their cities need to bring their sandbags to the curb no later than Monday, if they wish to have them removed, according to a news release from the corps..
Approximately 1.5 million sandbags were placed in the city of Oakport during the flood fight, and 460,000 needed to be removed by the Corps.
On May 7, the corps awarded a $235,166 contract to Randall’s Excavating of Glyndon to remove sandbags in Clay County.
