FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – The brother of a girl kidnapped by her stepfather was sentenced Monday to 90 days in jail for his role in her kidnapping.
Derek Allen Gilpin, 26, of Elbow Lake previously pleaded guilty to felony first-degree tampering with a witness and was sentenced pursuant to a plea agreement, said Otter Tail County Attorney David Hauser.
Gilpin was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and will be on supervised probation for up to five years for his actions, he said.
Gilpin is accused of sending text messages to his stepfather, David Sabby, telling him where he and his sister were, court documents state.
Sabby still faces charges in connection with the kidnapping.
