Early voting for Fargo’s half-percent sales tax proposal attracted 1,631 people, an election official said late Thursday.

Early voting was available Tuesday through Thursday at the Doublewood Inn.

Election coordinator DeAnn Buckhouse said officials expected a lower turnout for a special election than they saw last fall for the general election.

More than 300 people submitted absentee ballots as of Thursday, Buckhouse said.

The half-percent sales tax would pay for flood control.

The special election will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at 16 sites.
