FARGO – Sherri Thomsen, regional executive director for the Minn-Kota Chapter of the American Red Cross for the past six years, will be stepping down.
A news release issued this morning said Thomsen announced she is leaving to spend more time with her family.
During Thomsen’s tenure, the Minn-Kota Chapter grew from one office serving 12 counties to seven offices serving all of North Dakota plus 10 counties in Minnesota, the release said.
“Changes and consolidation in our region have enabled us to decrease overhead while still serving our community,” Thomsen said in the release. “I have enjoyed the opportunity to lead such fine staff members and volunteers through this growth. At the same time, I don’t want to look back one day and wish I’d had more time with my two little boys.”
One of Thomsen’s biggest challenges while at the Red Cross was this spring’s flooding, in which she helped lead over 900 volunteers and staff in the disaster response, the release said.
“Sherri’s loss will be greatly felt across the region,” said David Miller, board chairman for the regional Minn-Kota chapter. “In her tenure here, she placed the chapter on a fast track to excellence. It will be extremely difficult to replace her commitment and talent. We were fortunate to have her as our executive director for the last six years, and we wish her well.”
