Sens. Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Congressman Earl Pomeroy announced today that the White House has chosen Fargo native Jasper Schneider as the new State Director of USDA Rural Development in North Dakota.
Schneider currently serves in the North Dakota House of Representatives and represents District 21. In addition, he is a member of Conrad's Fargo staff where he serves as legislative counsel, responsible for legal research and analysis on health care reform, the flooding response, and other issues.
“Jasper Schneider is an excellent choice to lead North Dakota Rural Development,” Dorgan said in a written statement. “As a state legislator, he has worked tirelessly to create new jobs and new economic opportunities, and he has shown a commitment to improving the quality of life for all North Dakotans. I look forward to working with him in this position on initiatives that will have a positive impact on the state’s future.”
Conrad and Pomeroy echoed that sentiment.
Schneider graduated from Fargo South High School, Jamestown College and Hamline University School of Law. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at Minnesota State University Moorhead and has been in the state legislature since 2007. He and his wife Kimberlee have two children.

Good job, friend. These other blow hards have no idea of how great you will do, but those of us who know you well have no doubt that you will do this state proud. Looking forward to the great things to come.Report a Violation

Congrats to Jasper!!Just because he didn't grow up in a rural town doesn't mean he's clueless. He did go to college and law school. He is a state legislator. He does manage a US senator's office. He is intelligent and inquisitive.
He doesn't need to live on a farm to understand how to write grants and allocate funding to various state programs. I have faith that he will do an outstanding job.

Lots of comments from the peanut gallery I see. As is always true with younger politicians, people criticize them for "lack of experience" even without knowing anything about the person. Whereas a reasonably intelligent person can do 15 minutes of research in order to make a statement that doesn't make them look completely ignorant. Jasper has clearly worked throughout his years as an attorney and in congress and in his personal life as an advocate for those who need advocates the most. He's taken on some very important issues in ND and I'm proud to call him a North Dakotan. I can't say the same for some people on this comment list.Report a Violation
