Vicki Chepulis, executive director of Trollwood Performing Arts School, announced this afternoon that she’s leaving the organization after 31 years.

At a news conference, Chepulis said she’s stepping down for personal reasons and plans to spend more time with her partner, artist Kent Scheer.

"I really want to be clear my reasons for leaving are for good things," she said. "It has been a privilege of a lifetime."

She gave her notice to Fargo Public Schools on Wednesday, and will officially retire from the position at the end of February.

Chepulis worked in interior design in college, which led her to costume design. That’s when she met program cofounder John Marks, who led her to Trollwood.

By 1985, she had taken over after Marks as the executive director.
