West Fargo's mayor says crews are making headway on the troubled 32nd Avenue South bridge project.

Mayor Rich Mattern said he remains optimistic the bridge will be open by Dec. 1.

The mayor said the box culverts are all in and the goal is to fill in the area around them with dirt this week.

The project was to have been completed more than a month ago but the construction company ran into problems with shifting soils - the same kind of problems that side-lined West Fargo's Main Avenue bridge project this summer.

Mattern says weather is still a variable in the 32nd Avenue South project but he's hoping it will cooperate so the construction company can keep the project moving.
