FARGO - Nearly 300 students from the area are headed out to "pay it forward" today.

What that means is the students are taking their break from school to do service projects to help people in communities in the upper midwest.

Their ultimate destination is to wrap-up their four day community service tour in Chicago Saturday..

They will be making stops along the way, with the first being in the Twin Cities.

Joe Burgum is a student at Fargo's Oak Grove and he's been on more than one of these pay-it-forward community service trips.

Burgum says though there are many projects that could be done right here in Fargo-Moorhead as well but it's important for the young people on these trips to experience life outside the area.

The group will return Sunday.
