The floating bike bridge between Moorhead and Fargo will be removed from the Red River today because of possible river flooding, according to the Moorhead Parks and Recreation Department.
Flood stage on the river at Fargo is 18 feet, which the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks, N.D., expects to be exceeded by Sunday afternoon because of rain turning to snow. The weather service predicts the river will rise to 20 feet by Tuesday.
The weather service issued a flood watch for the Red River at Fargo, the Buffalo River at Sabin, Minn., and Dilworth, and the Wild Rice River at Abercrombie, N.D.
About one-quarter of an inch of rain had already fallen across parts of the southern Red River Valley by Thursday night.
Given an unseasonably moist air mass, an additional inch is possible in the area by late this morning, the weather service stated.
The western part of North Dakota got a rain-snow mix Thursday. It expected to turn to snow late Thursday night with the heaviest amounts ranging from 2 inches to 4 inches in the Jamestown area. Forecasters said the line between rain and snow is hard to predict.
A winter storm watch is in effect across portions of eastern North Dakota into this afternoon, the weather service says. Periodic rain and snow will continue into today.
Minor accumulations are possible farther east. Windy conditions are possible across the region today, the weather service stated on its Web site.

richard j...unfortunately the floodwalls at floodwalls.com would never work here. Once those are deployed, you cannot go any higher if you need to. We ended up raising the level of protection several times during this last flood.Report a Violation
