Bruce W. Nelson

Bruce W. Nelson, 59, Walcott, ND, died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Bruce was born to Boyd and Cecile (Christensen), March 27, 1950 in Breckenridge, MN. He attended elementary school in Walcott and high school at Kindred, ND graduating in 1968. Bruce then entered into the North Dakota Air National Guard in Fargo, ND and was a fire fighter at the Air Guard for 26 years retiring in 1997. Bruce met Linda Walker and were married in the Walcott Lutheran Church in January 1971. He also worked with his Dad. Together they worked as Nelson and Son Construction. After retiring from the Air Guard, he worked as a custodian for the Kindred School till May of 2009. He served as the fire chief for the Walcott Volunteer Fire Department and also held positions on the Walcott Park Board, Walcott City Council and was the commander for the Hagen-Helgeson Post #166.

Bruce loved tinkering in his shop, working with wood, being outside and especially had a great love of western movies (except Gene Autry's).

He is survived by his wife Linda, sons, David (Jody) Nelson, Kindred, ND, and Darrin (Kerry) Nelson, Walcott, grandchildren, Zachary, Jonah, Elias, and Lydia Nelson all from Kindred and Drew Nelson, Walcott, sister Linda (Allen) Stone, Walcott, and sister-in-law Margaret Nelson, Walcott and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Boyd and Cecile, brother Charles and granddaughter Elah Nelson.

The Funeral Service for Bruce will be Monday, November 9, 2009 at 11:00am at the Walcott Lutheran Church, Walcott, ND and there will be visitation on Sunday, November 8th from 1:00-3:00pm at the Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred, ND with a Prayer Service at 3:00pm. Burial with Military Rites will be at Walcott Cemetery, Walcott.
