ARVILLA, N.D. - An Arvilla, N.D., man was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison and five years of supervised probation for several charges, including a string of Grand Forks burglaries.
Steven Svir, 18, had pleaded guilty to counts of burglary, theft of property, preventing arrest, harboring a runaway minor, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, underage drinking, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, aggravated assault and terrorizing.
The latter two counts stem from allegations Svir cut his ex-girlfriend on the neck and chest with a knife in March, according to court documents.
Svir was ordered to pay victims $15,337.14 in restitution — $4,019.31 of that burden is shared with Dillon Patrick Davis, 19, who was sentenced last week to a term of supervised probation on charges of burglary and theft of property.
Svir was arrested in April after a three-hour standoff with authorities that began when officers thwarted his attempt to burglarize an East Grand Forks home.
