Alexander Mathew Asp was born on September 1st, 1986 in Joplin, Missouri. He was baptized in Miami, Oklahoma in December of 1986.
Alexander Mathew Asp was born on September 1st, 1986 in Joplin, Missouri. He was baptized in Miami, Oklahoma in December of 1986. He was raised in Hankinson, North Dakota. He attended Hankinson Public School and Hillcrest Lutheran Academy (Fergus Falls, Minnesota). He graduated from Hankinson High School in 2005. He attended Camp Joy Bible Camp as a camper and later as a counselor. While in high school, he worked as an EMT for Hankinson Ambulance. After graduation, he moved to Fergus Falls and worked as an EMT for Ringdahl Ambulance and joined them in hurricane relief in Texas. Alex went on two mission's trips, one to Mexico and the other to Thailand. He received his paramedic training through Bismarck State College while working for FM Ambulance, where he was also a part of the dive team for Valley Water Rescue. He then went to Texas and attended Baylor University and continued working as a paramedic for the East Texas Medical Center. He moved back to Minnesota as he worked for the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis before moving back to Fargo-Moorhead where he worked as a flight medic on MeritCare's Life Flight crew.
Alex loved traveling and adventure, such as swimming in the Great Barrier Reef, bungee-jumping in New Zealand, exploring in Japan, relaxing in Fiji, and bull-riding in rodeos. He enjoyed snowboarding, rock-climbing, wakeboarding, scuba diving, outdoors, reading, sleeping, listening to music, meeting new people, laughing and helping others. Alex treated every day as a new adventure and lived life to the fullest. He was an excellent older brother, who would always put his siblings before himself. Alex changed many lives and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his grandmother, Eleanor Braaten of Hankinson, grandfather Gene Janssen of Barnesville, MN, his parents, Mathew and Donna, siblings Joshua, Rebecca, William, and Elizabeth of Hankinson. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Bjarne Asp, maternal grandfather Howard Braaten, his paternal grandmother Lois Asp-Janssen and his cousin Jason Hektner.
Visitation: Sunday 3PM - 5PM with a prayer service at 5PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hankinson, ND.
Funeral Service: Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hankinson, ND, on Monday, November 30th at 2:00PM.
Interment: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hankinson.
