Sylvester “Sy” Wawers

Sylvester “Sy” Wawers, 86, of Enderlin ND died December 4, 2009 at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Enderlin.

Sy was born June 10, 1923 to the parents of Henry and Joanna Wawers in rural Hankinson, where he grew up and attended school. He married Yvonne “Vonnie” Sikorski January 8, 1947. They farmed for a year and Sy later worked as a mechanic in Hankinson. In August of 1948 he hired out as a fireman, and later as an engineer for the Soo Line Railroad. He retired in June 1984 after 36 years.

Sy and Vonnie enjoyed many summers at their lake home in Minnesota. He also enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, as well as spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grand children.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Sy is survived by his wife Vonnie of 63 years, 2 sons: Dale (Rachel) Enderlin, ND; Dean (Donna) Davenport, ND, 2 grandchildren: Carmen (Paul) Graupmann Marshall, MN; Todd (Naomi) Wawers Fargo, ND; 5 great grandchildren: Joshua (Chantal) Graupmann Bloomington, MN, Rachel, Jacob, & Jordan Graupmann of Marshall, MN and Grace Wawers Fargo, ND; 2 sisters: Cecila Brinkman, Visalia, Ca., Shirley (Arlin) Schultz, Mantador, ND and 1 brother Aloys (Dorie) Wawers, Breckenridge, MN.

Visitation: 5-6pm Wed., December 9 at Armstrong Funeral Home, Enderlin, ND. Prayer Service at 6pm.

Funeral: Thurs, December 10, 10:30 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Enderlin, ND.

Internment: Enderlin Cemetery, Enderlin, ND.
