MeritCare’s self-funded employee health insurance plan will be administered by the Sanford Health Plan beginning Jan. 1, a MeritCare spokesman said Thursday.

The switch, which follows MeritCare’s merger with Sanford Health, means Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota will no longer administer the plan, said Darren Huber.

“As a merged organization, it makes sense to utilize our own subsidiary to provide services that were previously provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota,” he said.

Huber said there would be no major change to the health benefit plan.

MeritCare will continue to use Dental Services Corp. through Blue Cross Blue Shield, however, to administer the dental plan.
