LINTON, N.D. (AP) — The Emmons County Commission is the latest North Dakota government to declare a flood emergency in advance of spring flooding.

Beaver Creek hit a record crest last spring, flooding the town of Linton.

The National Weather Service says Beaver Creek is one of the western North Dakota waterways officials are worried about again this year, because of the amount of snow, saturated ground and wetlands that already are full of water.

The county says some steps that homeowners can take right now include cleaning culverts and downspouts on their property, testing sump pumps and moving snow away from their basements.
