Matt Noah (“Funding abortion is not health care” March 18) presented a complete fabrication of fact in his recent letter.
The current health care bill clearly prohibits federal funding of abortion, in reality it flat out forbids it. In truth several times in the bill, it says about abortion that there is a “prohibition on the use of federal funds.”
Perhaps Noah missed the Catholic Health Association of the United States announcement in support of health care reform and the Senate bill. Further, the heads of Catholic women’s religious orders in the United States representing 59,000 Catholic sisters wrote “despite false claims to the contrary, the Senate bill will not provide taxpayer funding for elective abortions” in a letter to all members of Congress.
I hope Congressman Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., listens to his constituents who need health care reform, instead of being sidetracked by the wolves in sheep’s clothing trying to hijack the health care debate.
