The flooding Red River in Fargo-Moorhead appears to have crested this morning at 36.99 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service observed the Red at that height at 9:30 a.m. this morning. Subsequent observations show it dropping just a bit. The river is expected to stay above the 30-foot major flood stage for more than a week.
If the crest remains at 36.99 feet, this spring's flood would be the seventh-greatest flood in Fargo-Moorhead's recorded flood history. It surpasses the 2001 flood of 36.69 feet but just misses surpassing the 2006 flood of 37.13 feet. This year's flood is the second greatest in March, with only last year's top historical flood of 40.84 surpassing it. Last year's crest occured on March 28.
