Some familiar sights and sounds will accompany the smell of grilled and smoked meats at this summer’s RibFest at the Fargodome.
According to the touring industry Web site Pollstar.com, Phil Vassar, Gin Blossoms, Dokken and Slaughter will add music to the annual event.
Country crooner Vassar opens the festival on June 9. He played the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, Minn., in December and last played the F-M area in 2006 at the Red River Valley Fair.
The singer/songwriter topped the charts with “Just Another Day in Paradise” and “In a Real Love.”
The June 10 bill is not listed on Pollstar, but rockers Gin Blossoms are slated for June 11. The band, which played The Venue at The Hub in Fargo in 2006, made its name with jangly pop songs like “’Til I Hear it From You” and “Follow You Down” in the mid-’90s.
June 11, the last full day of RibFest, ends with a double shot of ’80s hard rock. Dokken landed radio airplay with the ballad “Alone Again” and “In My Dreams” while Slaughter won fans with the anthem “Up All Night” and “Fly to the Angels.” Both bands closed out the Red River Valley Fair in 2008.
No acts were listed for June 13, a Sunday, and last year local acts played that final day before the event closed at 6 p.m.
Messages left for Fargodome General Manager Rob Sobolik were not immediately returned.
