From the fireplace flickering in the lounge to the spacious showers with heated tile floors, Elements may seem more like a spa than a gym.
Yet Precor cardio machines and Paramount strength equipment line the fitness room and an array of group exercise classes are available.
Elements is a Miami-based boutique-style health club for women. Amy Wallach of Fargo opened the Fargo Elements facility at 3120 25th St. S. on April 12.
“I’ve been in the fitness industry for a long time, and I always thought that the women really deserved a place that spoiled them,” she said.
The health club boasts nicer amenities than typically found in a gym, personal service and a balanced approach to fitness, Wallach said.
There is a lounge and sauna where members can relax or de-stress. Massage services are also available.
“(Members’) exercise for the day may be about stress relief,” Wallach said. “If you can take care of that inner side of yourself, everything on the outside works a lot better.”
Stacy Tollefson, a lifestyle consultant at Elements in Fargo, said the club is really about a healthy lifestyle.
“It’s not just fitness and a diet, it is overall health. It is physical, mental and emotional well-being,” Tollefson said. “We don’t have to beat ourselves up to be physically fit. A yoga class or meditation or relaxation is just as healthy for our bodies.”
Pilates and yoga classes are offered in an inner-focus studio. Diet and nutrition programs are also available.
“(Members) really appreciate the fact that it’s not a cookie-cutter diet and fitness plan,” Tollefson said. “It’s really tailored around them.”
Trainers are on staff to help members with workouts, or they can be hired for one-on-one attention.
Leia Bohl of Fargo, a member of Elements, said it’s a club Fargo-Moorhead hasn’t seen before.
“Elements is just an extraordinary club,” Bohl said. “It’s very innovative. It’s very inviting. They have so many different options. It’s not just about working out, but it’s about lifestyle.”
Wallach said if women like the facility where they work out, they’re more apt to go there.
“My goal was to make it as nice as I possibly could, so they felt good coming, felt good when they left, and wanted to come back again, and I think we did that,” Wallach said. “All the little bells and whistles that women like, they’re all here.”
