FARGO (AP) — Sanford Health-MeritCare said Tuesday it has signed a partnership agreement with a system of rural clinics based in Oakes that serves seven communities in southeastern North Dakota.

The deal with Southeast Medical Center is expected to close July 1.

Southeast Medical Center was founded 32 years ago by a husband-and-wife physician team who have expanded the practice from Oakes to Gwinner, Forman, Lidgerwood, Ellendale, LaMoure and Lisbon.

Officials say no immediate changes in services or staff will occur, though the 45 full- and part-time employees will become Sanford Health-MeritCare workers.

Fargo-based MeritCare late last year merged with Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health, forming Sanford Health-MeritCare. The addition of the southeastern North Dakota clinics will fill the gap between the Fargo and Sioux Falls service areas.
