The 7-Day Clinic in Fargo’s Osgood development has expanded, nearly doubling its size by adding a 3,000-square-foot addition.

The addition, currently under construction, will accommodate optometry and physical therapy offices. The clinic will also expand its occupational medicine services.

Bill Williams, the clinic’s director of operations, said muscular, skeletal and eye injuries are among the top problems in workplaces and the expanded clinic will be able to take care of all major workplace injuries in one facility.

Plans are to have the addition up and running Aug. 1, he said.

“Nationally there’s been a combination between express-care services like what we offer where you just walk in and occupational medicine,” Williams said. “We’re just taking it to that next level and also offering physical therapy and optometry.”

Becky Young, with Wanzek Construction, said Wanzek needed a provider to help with pre-employment screenings. Due to the expansion, 7-Day Clinic is now able to do that, she said.

“It works out really well for us,” Young said. “They’ve been a professional group to work with, and they’ve got good knowledge and good resources and have been very responsive.”

The clinic also is working with Swanson Health Products on a wellness program to lower the number of accidents, injuries and illnesses, and therefore lower health care costs, Williams said.

The program, which starts in August, will target five diseases and behavioral issues that account for many health costs: hypertension, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes and smoking.

“All of those health factors are chosen because behavioral choices have a significant impact,” Williams said.

The clinic will look at health risks through a series of assessments. Swanson will then use incentives to encourage employees to improve their health.

“I think it’s kind of exciting to be putting something like this into place,” said Teresa Johnson, Swanson Health human resources generalist. “It will definitely help the health of the employees. It will make them think more about it. When you have a financial incentive toward better health, it’s a lot easier to put your best foot forward.”

7-Day Clinic has a similar program for its employees and is talking to other companies about related approaches, Williams said.

“The key part is the engagement of the employee, putting them closer to their health care costs so they’ll make those decisions,” Williams said.
