Both east and westbound Interstate-94 lanes at the 45th Street interchange will be closed tonight so crews can set beams on the 45th Street bridge, the North Dakota Department of Transportation said.

Crews are preparing the area for the delivery of cranes and beams, which will be used to widen the 45th Street bridge overnight. Each beam is 115 feet long and weighs almost 50 tons.

Crews will start diverting traffic up and over the bridge around 8 p.m. for eastbound traffic and 11 p.m. for westbound traffic. The closure will last until about 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Westbound I-94 traffic will be detoured up the 45th Street northeast off-ramp, across 45th Street and back onto the interstate via the northwest on-ramp. Traffic on 45th Street headed onto westbound I-94 will be able to access I-94 via the northwest ramp only.

Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured up the 45th Street southwest off-ramp, across 45th Street and back onto the interstate via the southeast on-ramp.

Motorists traveling through the construction zone should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destinations.
