MAYVILLE, N.D. – Sanford Health has donated the former Sanford Mayville Clinic building to the Christian Sports Commission, which will renovate the facility into an activity center for college students to be named the Laurie Berry Christian Center.

The facility will be used as a gathering spot for non-alcoholic events, co-ed athletics and student gatherings. It will also have apartment living space for a dozen students, according to a news release from Sanford.

“We see this not as a donation, but an investment in the Mayville community,” Paulette Amundson, vice president for community clinics at Sanford, stated in the release. “As part of our work to improve health and healing, we are dedicated to collaborating with our community partners – and this facility is a great example of that effort.”

Sanford officials decided to give the building to the Christian Sports Commission for several reasons: it fills an unmet need of the community and the college, it aligns with Sanford's mission of health and healing, and it lengthens Sanford's connection to education and the faith community.

Laurie Berry worked as a professor at Mayville State University for a number of years and was well known for her compassion, drive, and hard-working nature.
