In an effort to help people clear some overdue fines, encourage library cardholders to sign up for e-mail courtesy notices and help feed the hungry, the Fargo Public Library is holding a weeklong Holiday Amnesty “Food for Fines” event Nov. 29 through Dec. 5.

To participate, library users should bring in any overdue library items along with unexpired, nonperishable food items to the check-out desk at any Fargo Public Library location during regular library hours.

One food item will equal $10 in library fines. Non-returned items or lost library items are not eligible for the amnesty event.

Those who sign up for automatic e-mail notices will receive courtesy e-mail notices two days before an item is due.

Food collected during the amnesty event will be donated to the Great Plains Food Bank for local distribution.

For more information, call (701) 241-1472.
