Fargo Star, The Forum’s annual singing showcase, is back and searching for the Red River Valley’s next great undiscovered singer. Entering is easy. You just need a voice and a video camera to become the next singing “Star.” The contest is open to all ages, but time is limited. Contestants need to have entries submitted before Feb. 4. Here’s how you become part of Fargo Star:

1. Select a song. It can be any genre, any style and from any era, but be sure that it doesn’t feature vulgarity or lewd innuendo. Your performance also shouldn’t have any instrumental accompaniment; just your voice, a cappella.

2. Record your performance. The clip should be no longer than 60 seconds.

3. Post your clip online. Use video hosting sites like www.youtube.com to share your singing clip, then e-mail a link to your video to fargostar@forumcomm.com.

For singers who don’t have the ability to record their performances, The Forum will be hosting taping sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 13, 19 and 31 at The Forum in downtown Fargo (map). Please call (701) 241-5509 when you arrive at The Forum and someone will let you in the building.

4. Tell all your friends. Voting for Fargo Star will begin on Feb. 10, when the entry videos will be posted on Inforum.com. The 10 Fargo Star finalists will come from that group and the public’s voting will determine who is selected for the Fargo Star finals to be held at The Venue at The Hub on April 16.

5. Check with Inforum.com. We’ll post updates about Fargo Star taping sessions and other details on the website.

If you have any questions about Fargo Star, contact Forum Life Editor Robert Morast at (701) 241-5518.
