I need to comment on President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address on Jan. 25. Did he say anything that made you actually feel better about the future of our country?
I did hear him say that we are part of the American family. It’s a broad statement. I think he was saying we should all get along because we are Americans.
Liberal government policies have done everything to separate and weaken the family. Marriage is discouraged by the marriage tax. Family values are contradicted by laws opposing parental consent. Government grants are provided to Planned Parenthood, which opposes all restrictions on abortion. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that human life has less value than the right to choose. Religious freedom is stifled by a Supreme Court interpretation that the Constitution infers the separation of church and state. Government has compromised and cheapened family values.
I believe the American family is America’s strength. This country was built on family values, morals, personal responsibility, and, yes, faith in God. Parents need to take responsibility and teach their children what’s important in life and how to love one another. To me, that’s family – the American family.
We need to take responsibility and reform our government, before they reform us. We need to instill traditional family values and morals in our individual families. The future of our country depends on it. It begins at home and at church, not in Washington.
