FARGO — Grandin firefighters thought they had to evacuate a family from rising floodwaters in eastern North Dakota but ended up just moving their freezer.

Assistant Fire Chief Sean Jalbert says firefighters got a call about a dike breach at the rural Traill County home early Monday. He says a dozen volunteer firefighters responded, as well as two rescue airboats from neighboring Cass County.

Jalbert says the family was not in danger and just wanted some items moved out of their basement to a main floor. Jalbert says the rescue boats were called off, but firefighters did help move a freezer and other items.

Jalbert says the family did consider it an emergency. He says such calls aren't uncommon during a major flood.
