Police to collect expired safety equipment

FARGO – Representatives from the Fargo Police Department, Safe Kids FM, and Sanford Health will be collecting expired car seats and bicycle helmets from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kohl’s parking lot, 4444 13th Ave. S.

A news release about the event offered the following safety facts:

  • Car seats expire after six years from date of manufacture.

  • Children outgrow car seats by weight and height.

  • Car seats are not made to be used after a major crash.

  • Bike helmets expire after three years from date of manufacture.

A $10 Kohl’s gift card will be distributed for every expired car seat that is turned in.

Children’s bike helmets will also be available in return for a $10 donation to Safe Kid’s FM. The child must be present for sizing.
