With Memorial Day in the rearview mirror, summer is stretching to the horizon like highway black-top shimmering in 90-degree heat.
And where does that road lead?
For many, the destination is a small cantina, just off a Minnesota highway.
Nearby, close enough to catch a nostalgic whiff of outboard exhaust, sits a lake.
Such hangouts dot western Minnesota from Detroit Lakes to Perham and from Park Rapids to Fergus Falls.
For generations of families, they’re a traditional spot to hit for lunch or dinner.
For Minnesota expats home for a visit, the lakeside hangout is just the place to meet up with friends for an evening of catching up.
And for anyone with a thirst to quench or desire to socialize, what better place to head for after the sun sets on one of those rare, perfect summer days?
The Forum will feature a different lakeside hangout every Wednesday through the month of August.
The first appears today.
It’s a profile on Zorbaz on Pelican Lake, one of nine Zorbaz sprinkled across Minnesota lakes country.
The number will grow next year when a new Zorbaz opens on Green Lake near Spicer, Minn.
For the rest of the summer, businesses featured will be selected with help from readers who submit suggestions.
