MOORHEAD – The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Interstate 94 about seven miles outside of Moorhead just after 4:30 p.m., according to a news release by the patrol.

According to the patrol, a 2010 Chevy Impala was driving eastbound on I-94 and entered a construction zone about seven miles outside Moorhead. The vehicle crossed over into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound Freightliner. Due to construction, the eastbound lane of I-94 had both east and westbound traffic going head-to-head.

After the collision, the semi went into the median and caught fire, the patrol said. Dilworth and Glyndon fire departments responded to the scene.

The patrol reported that a personal injury occurred and ambulance and helicopter responded to the scene, but personal data of the parties involved was not released. The patrol reports dry road conditions during the incident.

During the incident, eastbound traffic on I-94 was rerouted by police officials at Exit 6. There appeared to be bumper-to-bumper traffic backed up for about three miles toward the city.
