Begin typing “Lady Gaga” into a search engine and one of the first auto-complete options to pop up is “weight gain.”

Blogs, celebrity talk shows and Twitter are buzzing about the pop star’s reported recent 25- (or 30 depending on what you’re reading) pound weight gain.

Everyone – including the U.K.’s Daily Mail with a headline reading “Looking Meatier” above an unflattering concert photo – seemed to think her weight was worthy of reporting. Google has more than 38,000 news articles related to the star’s fuller figure.

This week Gaga hit back, revealing she struggled with an eating disorder as a teen and isn’t at all worried about her recent curvier figure.

She also posted photos of herself in a bra and underwear stating she’s joined the “Body Revolution.”

On her site, Gaga explains that the inspiration behind the movement stemmed from the Born This Way Foundation, an organization she started with her mother to stop bullying and embrace individuality. “This profile is an extension of that dream,” she wrote. “Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws,’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous, and thus redefine the heinous.”

What SheSays: Reading the news about Gaga this week was painful. It seemed everyone was downright obsessed with it. Why as a society are we so quick to notice weight gain?

Gaga is known for her outrageous I-don’t-care attitude as well as her talents as a musician. Let’s stop seeing people as bodies and start looking at them for who they are.
