FARGO – It all started when I saw an orange clock. It looked so fashionable – a little retro, but also modern and fresh.
After that, I wanted pops of orange all over my apartment.
Orange – “tangerine tango” to be exact – was chosen as Pantone’s color of the year. Not only is orange trendy, but it’s often associated with optimism and youth. In color psychology, orange is said to have an uplifting influence on those who view it.
Some of my favorite things to eat, drink, enjoy and love are orange.
If your décor is otherwise neutral, why not spice it up with a splash of orange? I’m a fan of this retro-looking metal wall clock by Infinity Instruments, $29.97 at Home Depot.
Oh, the French macaron – so delicate, so tasty, so pretty. I like the orange, pistachio and chocolate varieties. Nichole’s Fine Pastry is the only local shop (that I know of) that sells the almond flour cookies. Many online sites, like Gilt Groupe, sell the cookies, too.
Carrot juice-infused shampoo
Besides having an eye-catching bottle and fun name, Yes to Carrots Nourishing Shampoo is a natural shampoo infused with organic carrot juice. I feel good using it on my hair.
Spritz of orange
After years of wearing classic floral perfumes, I wanted a fresh, citrusy scent. Aqua Allegoria Mandarine-Basilic perfume by Guerlain combines clementine and blood orange with hints of basil and green tea for a bright, light invigorating scent. Find it at Sephora for $61.
I only drink orange juice when it’s half champagne or prosecco. Choose an extra brut (dry) champagne since most OJ is sweet already. Korbel Extra Dry, about $14, is usually in my fridge.
Mini orange roses
I (almost) always have fresh flowers in my apartment. Orange tea roses are one of my favorites to make into an arrangement. They look lovely in a bubble bowl vase.
The visually pleasing orange design on these flour sack towels from Sur Le Table makes drying the dishes a little easier. I like to leave them out on the counter by the sink so I can enjoy the color.
Orange mugs are a chipper addition to my all-glass drinkware, and at $1.99 each at Target, they’re a steal. You’ll want to use it every day.
I feel akin to orange cats since their fur and my hair match. Who doesn’t love a fuzzy orange cat? My 5-year-old Maine Coon Brooklyn is classy and full of personality.
