FARGO – Karen Bope does what she wants when it comes to fashion.
Bope, who moved here from Sri Lanka in 2007, weaves edgy flair into her feminine style and says she doesn’t think too hard about what she’s wearing. She just puts on what feels good.
I spotted Bope downtown at Moxie Java where she was grabbing coffee before heading to work at White House Black Market.
Describe your style. I like wearing things that no one else is wearing. I love colors, although you can’t tell today since I’m wearing mostly black for work. I like collars with metal tips and other fun details. I just wing it.
What are you wearing today? My jacket is from Nordstrom Rack, my top and some accessories are from Forever 21, my pants are White House Black Market, shoes are Zara, one bracelet is BCBG and my watch and handbag are Michael Kors.
Do you have any fashion rules? I’m big on proportions. If I wear skinny pants, I have a flowy top. If I wear bigger pants, I have a tighter top. I favor skinny bottoms and baggier tops, though.
Where do you like to shop in Fargo? I’m a total Maxxinista. I like to shop at T.J. Maxx, Forever 21, Proper & Prim and Apricot Lane.
Is shopping different here than in Sri Lanka? India has pre
tty much the same stores that we have here in the States, like Zara and Forever 21. There seem to be more choices here though.
What are your favorite makeup brands? NARS and Urban Decay.
Does your style change once it snows? Not really. I probably shouldn’t wear open-toe shoes in the winter, but I do. I just run really fast to where I’m going. My wardrobe has more variety in summer though because I’m a total dress person.
If you could spend an unlimited amount of money on anything fashion related, what would you buy? A Celine handbag – all the big bloggers have them – and a camera so I can take photos for my blog, www.crazylove4clothes.blogspot.com.
What’s your dream job? To be a self-sustaining blogger.
What are you planning to buy next? Something made out of leather.
