Jean Heim-Bernstein, 80 years old, passed away Monday, November 12th in Mesa, AZ. Jean was born August 10, 1932 in Wyndmere, ND to Lester and Wilma Blow. The family moved to Breckenridge, MN where she graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1950.

In 1950 the family moved to Fargo, ND. It was there she met Mel Heim, a left-handed pitcher with the F-M Twins. There were married in Fargo on September 25th, 1953.

Jean Heim-Bernstein, 80 years old, passed away Monday, November 12th in Mesa, AZ. Jean was born August 10, 1932 in Wyndmere, ND to Lester and Wilma Blow. The family moved to Breckenridge, MN where she graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1950.

In 1950 the family moved to Fargo, ND. It was there she met Mel Heim, a left-handed pitcher with the F-M Twins. There were married in Fargo on September 25th, 1953.

They traveled wherever Mel's baseball career took them. It had been a fun time. When he retired from baseball they returned to Fargo to make it their permanent home.

Jean was very active in her mother's business, Mrs. Blow's Sewing Center, for many years. After the death of her mother, Mel and Jean opened their own business, Mel Heim Paint & Decorating. With the help of their 2 sons, Dan and David, the store was a success for 24 years.

In November 1989 their only daughter, Debbie, a single divorced mother was killed in a pedestrian-car accident. Debbie's two children, Chandra (6) and Mason (8) at the time were raised by Mel and Jean.

Mel passed away suddenly January 1996 leaving Jean the responsibility of the business, now located in their home, along with raising two grandchildren, a day-care before and after school. and helping her daughter-in-law, ill with MS. Jean made her home in West Fargo at this time. There was no time for outside activities until she joined Widow and Widowers, a wonderful organization.

Russ Bernstein entered into her life December 31, 1999. It developed into a beautiful relationship. They were married May 19, 2001. They spent their winters in Mesa, AZ and their summers in Fargo. With having family at both ends it worked great.

Jean's love for music and singing followed her through school and different churches, and had continued at her retirement park in Mesa, AZ. The love of cards had given her many dear friends.

Jean is survived by her husband Russ Bernstein, sons Danny Heim (Fargo) and David Heim (West Fargo), granddaughter Chandra Kramer (Gary) (Mesa), grandson Mason Heim (Fargo), granddaughter Elizabeth Heim (Fargo), grandson Grant Heim (Fargo), granddaughter Amanda Backstrom, 4 great-grandchildren: Phoenix Heim (Fargo), Rylee Heim-Richards (Fargo), and Gavin & Griffin Kramer (Mesa), sister Carol Black (Mesa), and brother David Blow (Cape Town, South Africa).

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband Mel, daughter Deborah, sister Renee, brother Denny, and 2 grandchildren that died at birth Bradley and Jared.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, November 20th at Shepherd of the Prairie Moravian Church 6151 25th St South in Fargo, Eric Renner officiating. Following the service there will be a lunch at the church and then burial at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Fargo.
