Thursday review: ‘Healthy’ deodorant stands up to claims

FARGO – I was a little skeptical when asked to test a free sample of Lavanila’s “The Healthy Deodorant.”
While the deodorant might be made with natural products, I didn’t want to smell au naturel.
So, while testing Lavanila’s deodorant in Pure Vanilla, I stuck a stick of the Dove deodorant I usually use in my purse just to be safe. However, I found I didn’t need it.
Lavanila’s The Healthy Deodorant is free of aluminum, parabens, propylene glycol, talc, phthalates and triclosan.
It uses antioxidants, active botanicals and essential oils to fight odor and condition, soothe, and nourish the skin.
I found it did what it claims.
The deodorant feels wet going on, almost like a roll-on, but it is a solid and dries fairly quickly. It is not colorless, however, and does leave a white residue behind.
The deodorant I tried also had a fairly strong scent. It wasn’t unpleasant, but it does seem to linger.
A 2-ounce stick of Lavanila’s deodorant sells for $18 on www.lavanila.com and Sephora.
