In 1986, Marvin was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives. Shirley was Marvin’s hard working campaign manager. She and Marvin lived in St. Paul during the legislative session. She was well known by many and enjoyed shaking hands and giving hugs. In 1975, she and Marvin were presented with the Valley Farmer and Homemaker award at the Crookston Winter Shows. Shirley and Marvin continued to live in rural Hawley after retirement, spending a few weeks every winter in Tucson, Arizona. They moved to Hawley in 2005 and to Ulen in 2008. Marvin died on December 18, 2010. Through the years, Shirley enjoyed traveling, reading, music and loved spending time with her family...and of course enjoying a special treat of almond M&Ms.
