LAST CHANCE: Nominate the best and brightest holiday displaysWe want to recognize the hours of time and hard work that go into those bright flickering displays, lawn ornaments, murals, festive music and the occasional robotic Santa Claus.
FARGO – For the second straight year, we’ve entered December without much snow on the ground.
While the lack of white is glaringly conspicuous, the early colorful Christmas decorations on homes around the Fargo-Moorhead more than make up for it.
We want to recognize the hours of time and hard work that go into those bright flickering displays, lawn ornaments, murals, festive music and the occasional robotic Santa Claus.
For that reason, we’re again calling for nominations for our 10th annual Griswold Award.
Named after Clark Griswold, who went so memorably overboard with his decorating in the film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” the award recognizes an area homeowner every year who goes above and beyond the line of duty in holiday decorating.
We’re talking displays with lights so bright the neighbors have to pull their curtains to be able to get some sleep at night.
So we’re asking readers to nominate their friend, family member, neighbor or even just that house on the street that you drive by every day.
We’ll accept nominations at www.inforum.com through the end of the day Wednesday. The following week, we’ll post the candidates’ addresses and video of their displays online, where folks will have a week to vote for their favorite.
Then, we’ll profile the winner the week of Christmas in a Variety story.
Because what’s the holiday season without those displays that light up these dark winter nights?
