Inger Horvik Skodje passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Bethany Homes in Fargo. Born August 28, 1929, to Ingebrigt and Ingeborg Teigland in Tysnes, Norway, she grew up in Norway and immigrated to the US in 1950. She married Eivind Horvik that same year, and they settled in Fargo-Moorhead where he taught Physics at NDSU and they raised four children.

In addition to running a busy household, Inger helped her husband run Horvik Travel Service in Moorhead. She was also a champion knitter, winning the national "Make It Yourself With Wool" competition in 1964 with a beautiful Norwegian sweater. Eivind passed away in 1976. After that time, Inger worked at The Cedar Chest, where she shared her knowledge of knitting and crocheting with many customers. In 1990, Inger married Marvin Skodje, and they lived in Rochester, MN, for two years, until Marvin retired. They then relocated to Fargo, where they enjoyed visiting with friends, their children and grandchildren, both at home and at the lake. Marvin died in 2004, and Inger remained in Fargo until her death. Inger was a two-time breast cancer survivor who raised her family with strength and kindness. She will be missed by us all.

Inger is survived by her sister, Petra Epland, Tysnes, Norway; children Synneva (Dan) Hicks, Rochester, MN; Ann Marie Horvik (partner Don Herring), Denver, CO; Leif (Joan) Horvik, Palmdale, CA; and Scott (Lori) Horvik, Fargo; six grandchildren: Michael and Brian Hicks (Synneva), Shanna, Raelene, Erik Horvik (Leif), and Torin Horvik (Scott); great-grandchild, Eivind Horvik; three step-children Mark (Kerry) Skodje, Lake Crystal, MN; Ann (Tony) Redding, Minneapolis, MN; Bill (Ann) Skodje, Minneapolis, MN; and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Mikkal and Johannes Teigland; two sisters Annemor Helland and Helgemor Leithe; and husbands Eivind Horvik and Marvin Skodje.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo. Memorial gifts in honor of Inger Horvik Skodje may be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Pontoppidan Lutheran Church.
