FARGO – The Taste of Italy restaurant at the Avalon Events Center here has closed.
Starmark Hospitality Group of Fargo – owner of The Hub nightclub – now owns the Avalon, which remains open for events.
Tom Poole, of Fargo, was named the new general manager and an operating partner of the Avalon.
Poole said Taste of Italy owner Stan Hoglund leased the Avalon building. He operated the Avalon Events Center business along with owning and operating The Taste of Italy restaurant.
Hoglund closed the restaurant Jan. 1 and vacated his lease, Poole said.
Hoglund could not be reached for comment.
Taste of Italy opened in early 2011 at 612 1st Ave. N. before moving across the street into the second floor of the Avalon Events Center in October 2011.
Poole said the restaurant will not be reopened.
Prior to Taste of Italy’s opening, the kitchen was used for catering weddings and events held at the Avalon.
The Avalon Event Center will continue to specialize in weddings and corporate and private event functions.
Poole is a former general manager of the Radisson Hotel. He was a co-owner and general manager of the Avalon when it first opened for business in 2001.
Poole said he will co-book events between the Avalon and The Hub.
