Ardis Sylvia Mahlum

Ardis Sylvia Mahlum, 83, of Fertile, MN, and, wintering in Mesa, AZ, died at the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Phoenix, AZ on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

Ardis was born January 5, 1930, in Section 3 of Flom Township, Norman County, to Oscar and Rocelia (Lien) Stene. She received her elementary education at Plentywood country school, in District 12, 4 miles north of Flom, MN and graduated from Twin Valley High School. Ardis attended Fargo Business College after which she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for Myhra Equipment Company in Fargo, ND until she got married.

Ardis Sylvia Mahlum, 83, of Fertile, MN, and, wintering in Mesa, AZ, died at the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Phoenix, AZ on Saturday, January 19, 2013.

Ardis was born January 5, 1930, in Section 3 of Flom Township, Norman County, to Oscar and Rocelia (Lien) Stene. She received her elementary education at Plentywood country school, in District 12, 4 miles north of Flom, MN and graduated from Twin Valley High School. Ardis attended Fargo Business College after which she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for Myhra Equipment Company in Fargo, ND until she got married.

On June 26, 1949, Ardis was united in marriage with Royal Mahlum at Wild Rice Lutheran Church east of Twin Valley, MN. Ardis and Royal farmed with her brother-in-law Werner Mahlum for 30 years before retiring in 1976. She enjoyed her winters in Mesa, AZ for the last 33 years and while there attended St. Peter’s church. Ardis was a member of Sundal Lutheran Church, Gary, MN where she held many offices through the years and was currently serving as President of the Ladies Aid. She and Royal enjoyed flying in their plane and traveling to all 50 states along with traveling overseas to France, Switzerland, and Norway. She enjoyed keeping in touch via phone, mail and email and was well known for taking pictures and sharing them with her family and friends.

Ardis is survived by her three daughters: Kleone (Arden) Wangen, Albert Lea, MN; Janelle (Grant) Carroll, China Spring, TX; Crystal (Arvid) Broden, Gary, MN; a sister: Olive Axdahl, Frazee, MN; a brother: Harvey (Corrine) Stene, Fertile, MN; eight grandchildren: Jeremy Carroll, Pierre, SD; Jerad (Jessica) Carroll, Aberdeen, SD; Justin (Rebecca) Carroll, Waco, TX; Lindsey Abel, China Spring, TX; Courtney Wangen, Mankato, MN; Ryan Wangen, Albert Lea, MN; Austin (Marjorie) Broden, Fertile, MN; Kelsey (Barent) Thronson, Ada, MN; sister-in-law: Darlene Mahlum, Mesa, AZ; ten great grandchildren: Makenzie, Mariah and Miranda Carroll; Chelsea Carroll; Logan and Tyler Carroll; Presley Abel; Kaylie, Emily and Mason Broden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal Mahlum (2008); her mother, Rocelia (1995), her father, Oscar Stene (1989); her brother-in-law and sister-in-laws: Donald Axdahl; Werner Mahlum; Walter and Emerald Nolte; Emery and Bernice Johnson; Pierre Haumont; Arlys Stene; grandson-in-law: Scott Abel.

We will cherish her memory!

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 11 am, at the Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 28, 2013, from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
