FARGO – Eventide Senior Living Communities, which has campuses in Moorhead, West Fargo and Jamestown, will soon build a location in Fargo.

The nonprofit is set to break ground early this summer at the corner of 32nd Avenue and 51st Street South, near the Scheels Arena.

The location is just down 32nd Avenue from Essentia Health and about six blocks from where Sanford Health will be building a new medical center.

Eventide’s new skilled-nursing facility will provide about 90 private resident rooms for long-term care and short-term transitional care. Senior living apartments are also planned.

Jon Riewer, president of Eventide, said the move is driven by demand.

“We considered adding to our Sheyenne Crossings campus in West Fargo,” he said. “However, due to limited space, we concluded that it made more sense to address our need for increased capacity with a new location that would also provide us options for growth in the future.”

He said growth is expected, based on a recent market study that looked at senior housing needs in the Fargo-Moorhead area. It found there will be at least 4,500 more seniors who will need housing within the next five years.

“Our board is committed to building on our mission of service to seniors, recognizing that as Fargo-Moorhead grows, so does the need for quality health care,” Riewer said, adding that demand is great for private resident rooms.

“From our market study, about 24 percent of beds (in the area) are private rooms,” he said. “There’s a long ways for our community to go. We’re committed to the fact that people shouldn’t have to have a roommate when they’re needing skilled care.”

The new facility is expected to be completed by late 2014.

Founded in 1951, Eventide Senior Living Communities has headquarters in Moorhead, where it operates two campuses.

Eventide has 900 full- and part-time employees and serves 850 residents at its four locations.
