Larry A. Bergen, 67, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, April 21 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM Wednesday April, 24 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Xavier Ilango, officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

Friends may call 4:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday with a parish vigil at 7:00 PM at David-Donehower Funeral Home. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the mass at the church on Wednesday.

Larry Allen Bergen was born June 22, 1945 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Lawrence and Angie (Tembrock) Bergen. He is a 1963 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School and then attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He is a 1965 graduate of the DePage Horticulture School in Chicago, IL. He then returned to Detroit Lakes where he joined his father in Bergen’s Floral.

Larry was united in marriage to Frances Karsnia, July 1, 1967 in Frazee, MN. In 1968, they purchased Bergen’s Floral and operated the business until 1975 when they opened Bergen’s Oak Designs. Larry began driving truck for Anderson Trucking of St. Cloud, MN in 1995, retiring in 2006.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, growing orchids, violets and roses; cooking, reading, building model ships and his weekly breakfasts with his brother, Ron.

Survivors include his wife, Fran of Detroit Lakes, a son: Tim (Christy) Bergen of Brooklyn Park, MN, two daughters: Chris (Brian) Stalberger of Detroit Lakes, Katie (Wayne Jahnke) Simons of Detroit Lakes, seven grandchildren: Danielle (Tom) Graham, Jake Stalberger, Austin Kohler, Adam Simons, Nicole Bergen, Mason Jahnke, two great-grandchildren: Lucas and Lilly Graham, a brother, Ron (Cathy) Bergen of Frazee and two sisters: Fran Bogema of Independence, MN and Rosie (Tim) O’Connor of Bismarck, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ardelle Haynes and two nephews: Terry and Peter Haynes. David-Donehower Funeral Home is serving the family.
