Alfred "Neil" Monsebroten, age 77 of Grafton, ND, passed away Thurs May 9, 2013, at Sanford Hospital Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Neil was born August 31, 1935 in Grafton to Alfred and Tena (Gjevre) Monsebroten. He attended school in Grafton until 1952 when at the age of 15, he took over the family farm upon the death of his father. In 1956 he married Margaret Young of St. Thomas, ND, and they raised their four children on the same farm where he was born and raised.

Alfred "Neil" Monsebroten, age 77 of Grafton, ND, passed away Thurs May 9, 2013, at Sanford Hospital Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Neil was born August 31, 1935 in Grafton to Alfred and Tena (Gjevre) Monsebroten. He attended school in Grafton until 1952 when at the age of 15, he took over the family farm upon the death of his father. In 1956 he married Margaret Young of St. Thomas, ND, and they raised their four children on the same farm where he was born and raised.

Neil loved farming and anything connected with it. He enjoyed spring planting and never tired of watching the crops grow, tending them through to fall harvest. He was a good steward of the land he loved. He was very proud of his family, and was proud that his children all received college educations. He enjoyed his time with them, and especially his grandchildren.

Neil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret; children Delene (Doug) Johnson, Pacifica, CA; Diane (Duane) Wallace, Park Rapids, MN; Ross (Debbie) Monsebroten, Grafton, ND; and Todd (Suzanne) Monsebroten, Fargo, ND; grandchildren Eric, Jared and Rachel Monsebroten; and Iain and Olivia Wallace. He is also survived by his brother, Marvin (Maryann) Monsebroten, Henderson, NV; sister Elsie (Lyle) Lamont, Apple Valley, CA; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

Neil is preceded in death by his parents, sister Elaine Grovum, and grandson Jack Wallace.

A memorial celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Federated Church in Grafton, with the Reverend Lee Gale officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday evening starting at 6 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm at the Federated Church and Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
