FARGO – Fargo Marathon organizers have issued a local high school 5K challenge as they reach the 7,000 registrant mark.

Students at high schools in Moorhead and West Fargo High School, as well as North High, South High, Davies High and Shanley in Fargo are encouraged to sign up and register as many friends and family members as possible for the Friday night 5K.

Each school that signs up 500 people will receive 50 pairs of shoes for kids in their district’s elementary schools.

Dakota Medical Foundation and Blue Cross Blue Shield will match a portion of each 5K registration fee donated by the Fargo Marathon. Donated funds will then be used to buy Nike running shoes for children.

If all six schools register 500 kids, the Friday night 5K will reach 10,000 participants, exceeding last year’s total.

To register for the Fargo Marathon Friday Night 5K, visit www.fargomarathon.
