MEDORA, N.D. — The Painted Canyon Scenic Overlook in the southwestern North Dakota Badlands will remain open through the end of October.

Sen. John Hoeven announced Tuesday that the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation was providing money to keep it open through October instead of closing it at the end of September.

The overlook is a tourist attraction along Interstate 94 and serves as a gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

The National Park Service has planned to keep the overlook closed this year because of federal spending cuts, but agreed to keep it open for the summer.
