Lester (Bud) Ellsworth Ballinger (90), Verona, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 3 at Parkside Lutheran Home in Lisbon, ND.

Bud was born February 13, 1923, to Ernest and Margaret (Jensen) Ballinger at his Grandfather Jacob Lincoln Ballinger's homestead, Hanson Township, Ransom County, ND.

Lester (Bud) Ellsworth Ballinger (90), Verona, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 3 at Parkside Lutheran Home in Lisbon, ND.

Bud was born February 13, 1923, to Ernest and Margaret (Jensen) Ballinger at his Grandfather Jacob Lincoln Ballinger's homestead, Hanson Township, Ransom County, ND.

Bud married Eva May Joyce in Lisbon, ND, on October 3, 1943. Together, they had six children. Bud lived on the family farm all his life with short stays in Canada, Alaska, Jamestown, Minneapolis, and Fargo, but he always had the yearning to go back to the farm. He spent the last four years in Lisbon. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Verona, ND. Bud had many hobbies. He was a gunsmith, hunter, inventor, traveler, and avid reader.

Bud leaves behind his loving wife of 69 years, Eva, daughter Leslie (Allen) Arne, Minot; sons: Ernest (Monty) (Janice)Ballinger, Verona; Rod (Sue) Ballinger, Fargo; Rocky (Brenda) Ballinger, Verona; Rick (Anne) Ballinger, Fargo; Todd Ballinger, Grafton, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Artis)Ballinger, Moses Lake, WA; sister LaRae Steffen, Hesperia, CA, and sister-in-law Mamie(Andrew) Smith, Fargo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Margaret Ballinger, grandson Matthew Ballinger, great-grandson Isaac Knipp, and two sisters: Louva Joy Busche and Ernesteen Peterson.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Verona. The Rev. Cheri Danielson will officiate.
