FARGO – Tim Hortons is coming to Fargo.

No exact locations or opening dates are available, but the Canada-based, quick-service restaurant chain known for its doughnuts and coffee is coming to Fargo, said Jenny Arel, business development and marketing director for Grand Forks-based ICON Architectural Group.

Arel described the project as “on a fast track.”

A group from ICON, which will develop the restaurant, and a group of executives from Tim Hortons visited Fargo on Tuesday, Arel said.

Tim Hortons also expects to open restaurants in Grand Forks by the end of the year. ICON is also developing those restaurants.

The first Tim Hortons shop in Grand Forks will open at the new 42nd Street Square, a strip mall across the street from the Alerus Center and Canad Inns.

ICON officials have been seeking other potential locations around Grand Forks. While no other sites have been identified, several are expected to open within the year, Arel said.

According to Tim Hortons’ website, the company had 4,288 restaurants, including 3,453 in Canada and 808 in the United States and 27 in other regions, as of March 31.

The chain currently is located in 11 states: Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Today, along with Tim Hortons coffee, the restaurant offers dozens of doughnut products, as well as cakes, pies, croissants, soups and sandwiches and other items.
