FARGO – Dr. Jon Norberg, who regained his medical license after he was found not guilty of sexual assault allegations leveled by his ex-wife, has resumed his medical practice at Sanford Health.

Norberg, a hand surgeon, returned to practice earlier this month at Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Darla Dobberstein, a vice president at the Sanford Orthopedics Clinic in Fargo, said Monday in a brief statement.

“He is a highly skilled, excellent hand surgeon who provides quality care to his patients,” she said.

Norberg was unavailable for comment Monday.

“I think I’ve been exonerated,” he said when his medical license was reinstated last August. “In basically every arena you can be exonerated in – the criminal, the civil, the professional.”

Norberg was accused by his former wife, Alonna Norberg, of drugging and sexually assaulting her.

Alonna Norberg, herself a physician, accused her then-husband of injecting her with propofol or using ether-like substances on her without her knowledge and having sex.

A jury rejected those arguments in a trial last November. Jon Norberg was given primary custody of the couple’s three children and house in a March divorce trial.

In proceedings before the North Dakota Board of Medical Examiners, which controls physicians’ licenses, 205 of his former patients expressed support for Norberg.

A lawsuit filed by Sanford to collect money it said Norberg once owed has been resolved, Dobberstein said.

Earlier this year, Sanford filed a civil lawsuit against Norberg to recover $276,000 to purchase his former practice and a $374,000 low-interest loan.
