Outshine fruit bars pack refreshing flavor

FARGO – In between the seasonal splurging on rich eats and warm drinks, I need a break.

Edy’s Outshine blood orange frozen fruit bars (less than $4 for six at most grocery retailers) are just the ticket. Refreshing and not too sweet, the cool, flavorful bars are welcome change to the holiday food lineup.

The orange-y-red treats are softer than a Popsicle – think sorbet on a stick – and strike a pleasant balance of tart/sweet blood-orange flavor.

The ingredient list of the seasonal fruit bars explains why they taste so fresh. Fruit juices (primarily from blood oranges), sugar, orange pulp and tangerine oil combine to create the frozen bars. No hard-to-pronounce ingredients here.

Each bar is 80 calories and fat-free and also contains 25 percent of the daily recommended intake of Vitamin C.

It may be cold outside, but I’ll have a fresh-tasting frozen fruit bar any day.
