Edward Burnell "Barney" Isakson, 90, of LaMoure, ND passed away December 26, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

Barney was born on September 6, 1923 on the family farm in Gladstone Township to Ingval and Mabel (Peterson) Isakson. He attended country school in Gladstone Township, completing eighth grade. As the eldest son, the majority of his youth was spent helping his father on the farm. In 1941 he joined the CCC's and was sent to Miles City, Montana. He returned to the farm in 1942 and during WWII spent winters working at the Fairmont Creamery in Moorhead, MN producing dairy products for the military. After his mother passed away in 1948, he helped raise his two younger brothers, Howard and Dennis.

Edward Burnell "Barney" Isakson, 90, of LaMoure, ND passed away December 26, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was united in marriage to Anna Fog, Lisbon, on June 19, 1950. They made their home on his family farm raising small grains, hogs, and cattle. They moved to LaMoure in 2001, but he continued to help his son Kevin on the farm until recently.

He loved to keep busy in his shop repairing and manufacturing equipment. He especially loved welding. In retirement he enjoyed amateur ham radio, building his own tower for his radio antenna. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and reading Westerns.

He is survived by his spouse of 63 years; three children, Karen (Larry) Sandness, LaMoure, ND, Diane (Steve) Hildahl, Jamestown, ND, and Kevin (Donna), Litchville, ND; eight grandchildren, Laurie (James) Boeshans, Angela (Tyler) Van Bruggen, Mary (Aaron) Wenaas, Michael (Stacee) Sandness, Tyler (Johnna Burgess) Hildahl, Donal (Cory Baker) Gohman, Scott Gohman, and Kevonna Isakson; five great grandchildren, Mason and Cooper Boeshans, Kylie and Maya Van Bruggen, and Nolan Wenaas; three brothers, Robert and Dennis (Donna), LaMoure, ND and Howard, Williston, ND.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Lenore Johnson, Mollie DiBrito, and Doris Siedschlag.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure. Barney's funeral will be Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at High Prairie Lutheran Church near LaMoure. Burial will be at High Prairie Cemetery in the spring.
